Mud, water puddles, sand…summer in Wisconsin comes with its own set of challenges for homeowners and their floors. To keep your floors clean this summer, use these top 10 tips to keep your carpet, hardwood, laminate, or tile floor in top shape (until fall and winter, anyway!).
- Keep towels easily accessible by the pool or lake to avoid water puddles that could damage your laminate or wood floors.
- Do not use a lot of “elbow grease” when cleaning up carpet stains to avoid damaging carpet threads.
- Test all cleaners on a part of your floor that can’t be seen (under a couch, TV stand, etc.) before you clean a stain in a public area.
- Clean up all puddles and stains as soon as possible.
- Try to sweep and vacuum your floors regularly to keep your floors clean in between cleanings.
- Schedule a professional cleaner to come and give your floors a deep clean (carpet clean, mop, etc.) during summer when you can keep the windows open.
- Sweep up sand and gravel as soon as you find to avoid scratches.
- Put felt pads on all your furniture so it doesn’t scratch the floor.
- If you need to move furniture, put a piece of cardboard under it so you don’t scratch the floor while moving.
- Use cleaners approved by your flooring manufacturer so you don’t void the warranty (and get it clean and keep it clean this summer!).
